NiceLabel Now with Enhanced Features for Gen2 RFID Label Printing

The NiceLabel software has supported Gen2 tags for RFID smart labeling since its version 4.0.3 release in Fall 2005. NiceLabel Pro version 4.1 now provides new, enhanced features to encode and print second generation Class 1 RFID tags on selected printers.

To encode the RFID tag data on the label, NiceLabel offers an interface that enables you to easily encode values, in addition to the EPC value, for the User Definable Data, Tag ID (TID), Access Code and Kill Code into different blocks on the RF tag. You can enter information into each data field separately as fixed data or receive the information to be encoded from a database or other variable field in your label template. NiceLabel ensures that the data is encoded correctly according to the Gen2 standard and allows you to lock individual blocks to prevent additional encoding.

Enhanced feature: NiceLabel has allowed capturing the encoded RFID value into a printable label object for quite some time. In NiceLabel Pro version 4.1 you can extract the RFID tag data and use it with objects on the labels through a new menu system that simplifies navigation of NiceLabel for printing EPC values on the label. The extraction and data-mapping occurs directly on the printer. You only need to select a printer native font or bar code to format the objects that stores the RFID data. To create a text or bar code object with RFID data, do the following from the Toolbar on the left side of the NiceLabel Pro application:

NiceLabel Pro RFID Menu
  1. Select RFID Tag > RFID Data and configure the data to be encoded on the RF tag
  2. Select RFID Tag > RFID Tag Text Field or Barcode Field and enter the data
  3. Select a printer native font on the text or bar code object field

Make sure that you place the text or bar code object above the RF tag inlay on the label. The printer must encode the RF tag first before it reads and transfers the data to the defined label objects.
