NiceLabel Solution ID - Using NiceLabel to Build and Protect Recurring Revenue Streams
Many NiceLabel resellers have opportunities to create custom applications that fit a specific need. Most of the time, custom solutions are installed on less than 10 PC's; however, what if a NiceLabel Partner designed an application that would be mass distributed? How would intellectual property be protected? How would they protect the label, form and trigger designs of the application? Solution ID is the answer to all of these questions.
What is Solution ID?
Solution ID is a way for NiceLabel developers to protect application functionality by linking a set of actions to a particular license key. Using a single "Verify License" action in either NiceForm or NiceWatch, developers can link all of their actions to a software key that "unlocks" their application at run time.
Advantages of Developing Solution ID Applications
The major advantage of using a Solution ID key with an application is that you can link a custom application with a custom license. If the user tries to use a standard NiceLabel software key, and the application is setup to use a specific Solution ID key, the application will still run, but printing will not be enabled. This guarantees that the customers will only be able to use the custom Solution ID linked to a custom application.
Secondly, Solution ID offers action encryption. NiceLabel has always had features to password protect forms and triggers; however, using a Solution ID license also enables action encryption when a form or trigger is password protected.
Lastly, if a hardware/software bundle were created using a printer or a touch screen monitor with a scale, it is possible to create a bundled product that can be packaged with a custom application.
The major benefit of Solution ID is that it allows any reseller of NiceLabel to easily lock down a custom developed application. This is essential for partners that want to control how their application is licensed. The need to have the knowledge of custom code and development environments is removed, allowing partners to use existing knowledge of NiceLabel to develop a Solution ID application.
How to Get Started
Solution ID is not for applications that have a small number of installs (less than 10). To get started with Solution ID, first a solution must be identified. This application must include either NiceForm or NiceWatch (or both). Once the application architecture is setup, contact your regional NiceLabel distribution representative. They will ask a few questions about the application, what the distribution plan is, and how many licenses you anticipate selling.
